Working together, listening

The f-word blog aims to offer a personal opinion, from the Fathom Editorial team, of events and trends in the developing transformation of the shipping industry.

THE fact that 13 companies in the maritime sector have formed a so called ‘global industry alliance‘ with three UN agencies could be a useful kick to get the next wave of greenhouse gas reduction regulations to work smoothly.
As the IMO is working towards a global roadmap that will target further CO2 reductions from the industry, it is likely that there will be calls for it to listen to the maritime sector.
One of the goals of this alliance could be to achieve this, as well as to ensure there is closer liaison between shipping and national authorities to understand the technologies and systems that can be used to achieve a low carbon sector.
